Sudden dramatic decrease in download speed over Three 4G
#1
I’ve been happily using Three 4G at home for the past 6 months or so, with an external antenna pointed directly at our nearest mast. We average around 150mbps down, and around 50 up. This can peak up to 200 down, and at worst around 100 down.

However, since the weekend our download speed has dropped to around 20, whilst the upload has remained unchanged. Could someone shed some light on what might be causing this? I’ve tried the usual resets of the modem and router. If any more information is needed I can gladly share,
Thanks

That seems to indicate a backhaul issue with the Three mast, particularly if the signal readings remain unchanged from before this happened. Check the SINR reading on your router just in case. Based on your previous speeds, the SINR should be in the 20s. So if it's now lets say below 10dB, this would indicate interference, such as another new mast nearby. The high upload speed rules means your antenna should be fine as the upload speed generally drops when the antenna has a problem, such as corrosion or water ingress in the leads.

Here in Co. Donegal, Three's performance seems to be a lot lower than usual in recent days. You can see my post here on this.

I suggest giving it a week just to rule out Three carrying out maintenance.

I had something similar few months ago. Was unusable. Contacted 3, said was a mast issue locally, was fixed and back to normal in a few days.

I'm also experiencing an issue with my mast , seems to be a lot of problems lately. I would get similar speeds but now I'm hovering around 20 or so. They claim to be working on the mast.

Reply I got:

"As these works were not planned and are ongoing due to a dip in performance on the site, I do not have a date of when they will be completed. Rest assured our tech team are working hard to resume services as soon as possible. I apologise for any inconvenience."
