3UK Unlimited Data SIMS
#1
Hi

First time poster here so apologies if this has been asked and answered. I have a retirement home in Ireland and currently using a 3 Ireland topup when I'm home in a 4G router. At present, 3 UK are currently doing business unlimited data sims quite cheaply with no fair use restrictions in Ireland and I wondered if I took out a 3 UK contract and poor one of those sims in my 5G router in Ireland, would it work in the same way as a 3 Ireland SIM or would it be throttled in any way.

Many Thanks.

From what I can tell from looking through Three UK's Business Price Guide, the fair usage limits exemption appears to be for the actual usage and not on the number of calendar days you can roam for.  In the price guide, it mentions Ireland being except from the fair usage limits, but also mentions this:
Quote:If a User roams exclusively in any international destinations for any two complete months in a rolling 12-month period or excessively, Three may suspend international roaming for that User(s) or Customer, meaning that User(s) or Customer will no longer be able to use their Device or allowances abroad. Three will let Customer know in advance if this is likely to happen.

If you don't use more than 200GB in a month, another option would be to get a 48 SIM, which is a prepay network that also operates on the Three network and costs just €13 per month.  After the first two months, you can purchase a month plan ad hoc just like with Three.

Hi Sean

Many Thanks for the quick response. I was not aware of that restriction and will probably stick with the 3 topup for now.

I have heard of 48.ie but could you explain the adhoc monthly plan. Are you saying that if I get a 48.ie for 2 month, then I can "keep it on standby" and only topup for a month when I'm home or do I need to top it up every single month (even when I'm not there).

Many Thanks - Mike

That is correct - When you join 48 you need to pay €12.99 for the first month plus a €12.99 activation fee. It will ask to enable auto-renew to get the second month for free. During the second month, you can turn off auto-renew, after which the plan will expire at the end of the second monthly period.

The next time you need Internet access, you can log in to 48 to top up €12.99 for another month of access. You need to make at least one top-up every 6 months to keep the account active, which is the same with Three.
