Does Vodafone throttle?
#1
Hi guys, I'm using a Vodafone business sim on my phone and I use hotspot on my phone and connect it to my TV when needed. No need for a router or actual broadband as I'm living alone and don't have many internet-enabled devices apart from the TV. The only signal that works here is Vodafone. Eir & Three is a complete blackspot.

I'm afraid to download updates over my mobile data, or download movies etc. in the fear Vodafone will throttle me.
Has this happened to anyone here in the past? Vodafone throttling business mobile customers? Or any mobile customers in general? For example, say I was to use 10GB a day? I hope this makes sense, I can't find anything online about Vodafone throttling customers apart from the packages that have the 10 MB limit.

From what I'm aware of, Vodafone does not have a fair use threshold on any of its unlimited mobile plans and I have not heard of anyone getting throttled or cut off for excess data usage with an unlimited phone plan.

The only issue I'm aware of is with their prepay unlimited plans where some SIMs are configured to tether over a different APN which results in data charges regardless of usage. This can be overcome with most phones by either removing the "hs.vodafone.ie" APN or adding ",DUN" to the "APN Type" field in the Vodafone Live APN. I'm not aware of anyone getting charged for tethering with a bill pay or business phone SIM regardless of the APN the phone / SIM is configured to tether with.

The only networks I'm aware of that definitely throttle for excess usage are Eir and GoMo, both which throttle to 5Mbps down / 1Mbps up after 120GB until the next billing cycle on all phone plans.
