I have been trying out Sky mobile now for a couple of days. I have been using a Vodafone sim in my Huawei router for my broadband at home getting speeds of about 60 to 120 Mbps. I thought Sky mobile would get similar speeds. Alas when I used the Sky sim in the Huawei router it consistently got throttled to 12 Mbps. I tried the sim my a Samsung phone and got speeds similar to Vodafone. It appears Sky are able to detect the type of device the sim is in and throttles the speed. I have tried this over a few days at different times and get the same results. When the sim is in the phone it still feels a bit slower than Vodafone and not as snappy when browsing. I think I’ll cancel the contract within the 14 day cooling off period which I’m not looking forward to as you have to ring Sky customer support to do so.
